Camp 2023
Welcome to our favorite program - CAMP! Whether you choose our School Holiday Break, Summer or Pottery Wheel Camps you will be pleasantly surprised with the slower and more relaxed feeling in the air because it's CAMP! Everyone gets to pause, take a breath and expand into the beautiful flow of creativity, and follow it wherever it goes. Friendships are fostered, new techniques are learned and fun just happens.
A note about our process in art camp: we've been in the 'camp business' for 13 years and have learned a few things along the way that make us unique in what we do - we know how to create an active curriculum full of great projects geared toward the theme of the week and always include campers favorites - but to really engage children there needs to be more. So we set about creating several small classes where we separate artists into similar aged peer groups; we work alongside our students and give individualized attention; we hire professional artists/teachers for additional technique and enrichment; we create a well rounded schedule that includes 3-4 art projects a day plus game, play and movie time. And to foster close camper friendships we created the Gratitude Project; a daily 10 minute session of writing anonymous notes to each other about what we like about each other. The act of taking a moment to write, "I like the way you draw," or "I'm glad you helped me with my clay project" goes a long way towards acceptance and connection. We love what we do and we're glad you're considering us as your camp choice.
Have you been to our place? We're both a home to artists and a school of art that was originally built for artist and newlywed (and founder of the McKinney Art Club - the oldest club in Texas!) Katherine Heard in 1914. It has been so many things over the years but we believe 'art house' is the best it's ever been. You'll love the many outdoor spaces, the wrap around porch and old-timey feel of the studio. We operate out of the entire downstairs and 2 rooms upstairs plus the garage that's been converted into a state of the art pottery studio! We encourage the exploration of all arts and crafts in a happy space, see you soon!
